Two-year-old Sofia was diagnosed with Juvenile Myelomonocytic Leukemia (JMML) in July 2013. Two months later her condition worsened when her JMML transformed itself into Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML). She underwent a haploidentical transplant in January. Unfortunately, it was not successful and she has relapsed. Sofia needed a marrow match from an unrelated donor. She was half Hispanic and Caucasian and needed a match with a donor who shared the same background. Due to complications, little Sofia passed away.
